Ornaghi & Prestinari: Bush Terminal Sculptures

MQ Architecture is currently managing the integration of five public sculptures by Italian artists Valentina Ornaghi and Claudio Prestinari into the ongoing Bush Terminal renovation in Brooklyn. Awarded through the Percent for Art program contest by the Department of Cultural Affairs in NY, we play a crucial role in conducting thorough research on potential contractors, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their capabilities and suitability for the project. We work closely with the artists to ensure their vision is realized, and the sculptures seamlessly integrate into the environment. Additionally, our duties involve not only the coordination of meetings with all the stakeholders, but also the meticulous drafting of essential construction documents.

The sculptures depict diverse cultural identities by showcasing traditional costume patterns from various communities. Ornaghi & Prestinari aim to emphasize the significance of individual cultures in a globalized world, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity. These sculptures serve as a reminder of the ongoing value of cultural heritage in shaping our communities.

Based in Milan, the artist duo collaborates together, exploring themes of identity, memory, and perception. Their work uses various materials and techniques to create immersive environments challenging the viewer’s senses.
