Melissa McGill: Red Regatta

MQ Architecture’s expertise was instrumental in crafting an immersive environment that showcased the related and preparatory works of McGill’s groundbreaking project, Red Regatta at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in New York.

As exhibition designers, we were responsible for conceptualizing the layout, ensuring the optimal presentation of various elements such as sketchbooks, hand-mixed swatches of vibrant reds, and multimedia artist renderings. Our role extended to coordinating the installation of these materials, creating a harmonious visual narrative that delved into the creative process behind Red Regatta.

The exhibition provided a unique glimpse into McGill’s artistic journey, spanning two years of meticulous preparation. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the intricacies of her creative process, from the initial sketches to the hand-mixing of the diverse red hues that adorned the sails of the vela al terzo sailboats. Through multimedia presentations, we illustrated how McGill envisioned the regattas unfolding in the picturesque lagoons of Venice.

Moreover, our careful curation highlighted the documentation of McGill’s extensive research, emphasizing the thoughtful assignment of individual reds to complement the unique sail and boat shapes of each vela al terzo. By seamlessly integrating these elements into the exhibition, we played a pivotal role in enhancing the audience’s understanding of the cultural, artistic, and environmental significance behind Red Regatta.
