Juan Carlos Bragado

Associate, Architectural Designer

Born and raised in Spain, Juan Carlos Bragado earned both his Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). He joined MQ Architecture in 2020, where he has contributed to a diverse portfolio of cultural, educational, hospitality, commercial, and residential projects, including work for nonprofit organizations. His work includes Stella’s Cucina, 1123 Walnut Street, Juniper Workshop, 584 Dean Street, Saint Peter’s Church, 109 Jackie Robinson Parkway, and immersive installations such as KAGAMI: Ryuichi Sakamoto at The Shed and Forest of Lights at the Guggenheim Museum, among others.

He has extensive experience navigating New York City’s building codes, zoning regulations, permitting processes, and Department of Buildings approvals, as well as construction administration in New York, Colorado, and California. His involvement spans every phase of a project, from schematic design, where ideas take shape, to construction administration, where those ideas are realized. Juan Carlos approaches each project through clear concepts and an iterative design process. Rather than relying on standardized solutions, he is interested in developing architecture that responds to the context and program of each project.

Prior to joining MQ Architecture, he worked at Renzo Piano Building Workshop, estudioHerreros, and Jesús Aparicio. He also served as an on-site consultant for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Additionally, he served as a teaching assistant in the Department of Architectural Design (DPA) at ETSAM from 2017 to 2018 and has been invited as a guest critic at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design at NJIT.

His thesis project, Decumanus, was recognized by ArchDaily / Plataforma Arquitectura as one of the Best Final Diploma Projects in Spain in 2019 and received an Urbanism Mention at the COAM Awards from the Official College of Architects of Madrid.
