Fisher Townhouse

After a successful collaboration on their previous Brooklyn apartment, the client engaged our firm a second time to help them renovate their next property: a Park Slope Townhouse on a quaint narrow street. The owner had a series of requests that included opening the backyard facade to bring light into the basement and parlor floor, an entertainment rooftop, a children’s playroom and four bedrooms.

Once the design was approved, we worked with the expeditor to navigate a complex permitting process that included lowering the cellar floor several feet. The structural challenge was increased by introducing a wall to wall metal lintel that allowed us to remove the brick facade to build a large glass window.

Our approach maximized the use of the 18’ wide block by proposing service elements on the middle, freeing both ends of the plan for the public program: The entry level has a continuous flow from living space into kitchen onto the garden/ barbecue area with a large exterior dining space. The basement has a large gym/ lounge area that leads to a sunken courtyard with a hot tub, which ends with a exterior stair into the garden.

The second floor combines a light wood accented Master area with the family room/home office while the upper floor is dedicated to the children quarters.

The natural oak wood floors run throughout each floor, while the marble slabs were hand picked with the client for each of the applications. We also introduced wall paper in many rooms and combined a white palette with some accent colors.
