Lake House - Kings Ferry Road
Designed for a small lakeside town in Cortland, New York, this house emerges from a site with history, where a previous structure once stood before collapsing due to structural failure. The opportunity to rebuild and expand became the starting point for a new architectural narrative.
Our proposal is defined by two interlocking volumes. A grounded concrete base reoccupies the original footprint, anchoring the project to the memory of what once existed. Above it, a second volume clad in perpendicular wooden paneling, introduces the expansion, housing private spaces and a large garage envisioned as a recording studio.
Together, they form an L-shaped configuration that creates a protected terrace, frames views toward the lake, and shields the house from the access road.
